One of my favorite quotes of all time is that of William James, "The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind."
Think about that for a little while.  That is a powerful statement.  If you get up in the morning with a terrible attitude, YOU and you alone have the ability to change the attitude that you have in your mind.  Don't expect anyone else to change it for you.  It is up to you to determine the outlook on life that you possess.
If I have the ability to alter the attitude that I have I can alter the whole direction that I take in my life.  That is a terrific idea and one which needs to be practiced every day you are allowed to stay on this earth.  That, of course, is not in our hands to determine, but in the hands of our Heavenly Father.
Attitude therefore is a choice.  You have the ability in you to change your own attitude.  Whether you are going to keep on criticizing others and hence having hatred build up in your mind as a result or if you so choose to put those attitudes out of your mind and develop into a love- able and likeable person.  You must make the choice.
If you disagree with someone don't argue with him/her.  Don't try to lecture to anyone.  It is better to listen to another person and try to understand their point of view than to rise up in anger and argue.  If you really stop and listen you might decide that they have a valid point.  But even if you never agree you can change your attitude and have a better day, both for you and the person you were talking to.
You know there is even the possibility that you might be wrong.  Have you ever thought of that?  No one is totally right all of the time, not even me.  I have joked about it when I'm caught in a mistake by saying, "I'm not too surprised, I made a mistake once before."  But I know better in my heart and mind.  I have made plenty of mistakes and have had the wrong attitude enough times to be encouraged by the fact that even I can alter the direction I am going in life by altering my attitude of mind.

My prayer for today is that I will know in my heart and mind that I can and will alter the direction of my life from this day forward,   Amen
